Timeless Landscapes and Natural Landscapes are collections of paintings that are intended to be thought-provoking. In these works I have tried to do more than capture a likeness. Each painting explores the deeper meaning of the subjects. The works include some of Scotland's most iconic places, as well as less well-known subjects. Special landscapes embody historic, cultural and natural significance that resonates down the centuries. The subjects of the paintings are not merely gorgeous landscapes. Neither are they generic scenes. They are real places with real stories. Their atmosphere derives from their aesthetic appeal combined with their cultural, environmental or spiritual associations. I prefer not to be too prescriptive or illustrative of the landscapes. Their defining character is expressed in subtle colour, shadow, brushstrokes and composition.
