The Wallace Monument was built in Victorian times to commemorate William Wallace, arguably Scotland's greatest hero.
It stands on the Abbey Craig, a hill above Stirling which is where he commanded his forces in 1297. He led the Scots to victory over the English in the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
The monument was erected in 1869 and stands 207m high.
The painting shows the view to the East along the foot of the Ochils.
