Glencoe Lit Up - COMING SOON

Project type

Acrylic painting on board 70 X 70 cm image

Date

2025

Location

Glen Coe, Scotland

The entrance to Glencoe inspires awe and is different every time you see it, depending on the light. There are walls of steep mountains on either side of the narrow Glen, with the Three Sisters on one side and the treacherous ridge of the Aonach Eagach on the other. Entering the glen is uplifting but also a sense of forbidding, perhaps due to its dangerous terrain, weather or dark history. This was the site of the terrible Massacre of Glencoe that took place in 1692. There is a heartening legend of an infant who was rescued soon after the massacre, the sole survivor of his family. A passing shepherd saw him and carried him back to his home on the Isle of Jura where he raised him as his own son.
