No one knows what the exact purpose of Calanais standing stones was. The stone circle on the outer fringes of the Isle of Lewis is even older than Stonehenge. Archaeological evidence reveals a surprisingly sophisticated and far-travelled population. It is impossible to contemplate the stones without feeling a profound sense of wonder at their creation so long ago in this remote place.
